The Honors Course - Ooltewah, Tn - Hamilton County Saturday October 18, 2008 8:30am - 12:00 noon This past Saturday morning I was afforded the honor and pleasure of birding for a few hours with David Stone. Thank you for a great time David! While David Stone offered apologies for the masses of birds having left with the previous night's weather front, I could not have been happier. We viewed 42 different bird types in a short 3-1/2 hour time span. The highlight may have been a Nashville Warbler that flew right over our heads. David believes this may be the latest sighting at the Honors Course; he was going to check his records. Being my first visit to the Honors Course I was very impressed with the habitat that David and his staff have created for the birds. Several bird sightings were especially fun for me - The large numbers of Eastern Bluebirds Several Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers Virginia Rail Links to a few photos are below the list; Mallard Wild Turkey - 12 Great Egret - 2 Turkey Vulture - 2 Cooper's Hawk - 1 Red-tailed Hawk - 1 Virginia Rail - 1 (seen flying) Mourning Dove Red-bellied Woodpecker Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 10+ Downy Woodpecker - 3 Northern Flicker - 2 Eastern Phoebe - 3 Blue Jay - 5+ American Crow Carolina Chickadee Black-capped Chickadee Tufted Titmouse White-breasted Nuthatch Carolina Wren House Wren Golden-crowned Kinglet Ruby-crowned Kinglet Eastern Bluebird - numerous American Robin Northern Mockingbird Cedar Waxwing Tennessee Warbler Orange-crowned Warbler Nashville Warbler Magnolia Warbler Yellow-rumped Warbler Pine Warbler Eastern Towhee Chipping Sparrow Field Sparrow Song Sparrow Swamp Sparrow Northern Cardinal Red-winged Blackbird House Finch American Goldfinch Yellow-Rumped Warbler http://bhowdy.smugmug.com/photos/397710231_JhCDp-L.jpg Eastern Bluebird http://bhowdy.smugmug.com/photos/397706218_5X73B-L.jpg Eastern Phoebe http://bhowdy.smugmug.com/photos/397707926_FTBZH-L.jpg Wild Turkeys http://bhowdy.smugmug.com/photos/397708580_AVDKH-L.jpg Bob Howdeshell Maryville, Tn. =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
