Just a little followup on the birding at Radnor Lake this morning. I ran into Dave Kirschke at the ranger station and am glad I did. I asked if he had anything good and he said there was the olive-sided flycatcher in the tree we were standing under. Great views of this life bird! I uploaded a couple pictures here: http://www.pbase.com/shoeman/image/124497973 Generally it was very birdy, but overwhelming with Red-eyed Vireos, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, and Swainson's Thrushes. The storms last week knocked down a lot of trees along the trails, which is great (unless you have to cut them up to open the trails again)! There are a few more decent sized canopy gaps that will provide some good habitat in the future. By good habitat I mean shrubby understory that is greatly lacking at Radnor. The open park-like forest that is common at Radnor doesn't support many birds that avoid the canopy. Some good things came out of this disaster. Now, if I could target a few more tree falls to make those gaps bigger.....
