Responding to Bill Pulliam's post on the nocturnal call of a Yellow-billed
Cuckoo, I had exactly the same thing happen last night in our backyard or just
beyond at about 8:30 pm.
Full call, though fainter than normal, but it did not seem particularly
distant. Very still night at the time with none of the normal toad racket from
streamside.
Funny because it seemed so odd at the time that I told Susan I might email Bill
and ask about such a nocturnal call.

While photographing the cicadas last night (5/19/2015) on our front porch in
western Lewis County, I heard a full "kow kow kow" etc. song from a
Yellow-billed Cuckoo at about 11 p.m. on the moonless night. It occurs to me
maybe I was not the only one out enjoying the periodical cicada emergence
last night!
