[TN-Bird] New and Old Backyard Birds

It has been so long since I posted. I wanted to share my happy backyard
birds with everyone though.

Today was a wonderful day filled with a couple of extra surprises. First of
all, my favorite woodpeckers returned for the 6th season in my yard. The
Red-Headed Woodpeckers arrived right on schedule. Every year in either late
April
or early May they show up, raise a family in my back yard, then head for
warmer winter weather in September. I feel like they are old friends when they
return.

I had another nice surprise. I was out filling feeders early this evening. I
heard the beating of wings coming from somewhere near the patio. We have
these metal half wells around the grates in the house foundation (I can't
think
of what they are called). They are not at all deep, but down in one was a
beautiful little bird. It seemed to not be able to fly out. I asked my hubby
to
grab the camera. Then I gently lifted the bird out, and was able to get a
couple of very close up photos as it just sat there on the palm of my open
hand!
Suddenly off it flew to the safety of the woods. It was a Chestnut-Sided
Warbler. A first for me as a yard bird. I have wonderful close up photos if
anyone wants to see.

Backyard birding is still one of my favorite pastimes.
