I want to thank Jan for coordinating the spring count and Amy Potter in working up the compilation. Access was limited in my area (Percy Priest Lake) as nearly every public access area around the lake was closed due to flooding. I birded mostly around Murfreesboro and in the Alsup Mill Rd and Lytle Creek area with a few other stops along the way. A few of the highlights from my area: Bewick's Wrens- 3, these were all on Alsup Mill Rd (1133 and intersection with Rocky Hill Rd). The continually singing males from 10 days ago were not located. Scissor-tailed Flycatcher - 3, 2 were on Lytle Creek Rd where they have been all spring. I also stopped by the Florence Rd site at 840 and lucked on 1 more bird in a brief visit. Loggerhead Shrike - 1, same location on Couch Rd just off Lytle Creek Rd. Same location where a shrike has been for 3 breeding seasons in a row. Grasshopper Sparrows - 6, all on Lytle Creek Rd. This is a much lower total for this area than in previous years. Blue Grosbeak - 7 Red-headed Woodpecker - 1, NOT on the snag where the Bewick's Wren was found at 1133 Alsup Mill Rd. Starlings were on the snag, but one red-headed was calling angrily from the telephone poles. The only shorebirds I found all day (other than Killdeer) were at Stones River Battlefield. The ag field behind the visitors center was flooded and I managed to find: Wilson's Snipe - 1 Spotted Sandpiper - 1 Solitary Sandpiper - 6 Lesser Yellowlegs - 3 Least Sandpiper - 8 plus a male Blue-winged Teal cavorting with a male Mallard.
