The Nashville Christmas Count was held on December 20 and totaled 78 species, the same as last year, plus 2 count week species so far, Redhead and Palm Warbler. Our two most unusual birds for the count were a late Green Heron at Cumberland River Greenway at Brookmeade Park and a Greater White-fronted Goose at Radnor Lake. The heron was still there yesterday and photos taken, but the goose was not found again. Other highlights included 99 Wild Turkeys, 2 Bald Eagles at West Meade and Harpeth West, 3 Red-headed Woodpeckers, 6 Fox Sparrows, 4 White-crowned, and 7 Purple Finches. There was no influx of Red-breasted Nuthatches or Pine Siskins this year, and no Loggerhead Shrikes were found. American Robins were streaming across the sky all day long in some areas, and practically nonexistent in others. I want to thank all who participated, and Susan Hollyday for hosting a delicious compilation. I also would like to thank Scott Block and Matthew Palmeri for helping me with the compilation of data. 1 Gr. WHITE-FR GOOSE 324 CANADA GOOSE 54 GADWALL 11 AM. WIGEON 3 AM. BLACK DUCK 55 MALLARD 2 N.
