The first of four Wednesday walks sponsored by the Nashville chapter of TOS
took place this morning in beautiful clear sunshine. The number of birders
as well as the number of birds started low and slow, but both increased as
the morning progressed, making for a good day to be out looking for migrant
and resident species at Radnor.
We had 10 species of Warblers and for those who made it all the way to the
Long Bridge, the pay off was good looks at a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER as well
as a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER. Warbler species seen earlier included a brilliant
male AMERICAN RESTART as well as a still-colorful CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER.
Another treat was a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER all decked out in bland fall
plumage, making us work a bit to get a positive identification.
The BLACK VULTURES were spotted in the far distance in power towers. We
were pretty sure these were Black and not Turkey as the distance made it
more challenging to ID, but then they flew. The unmistakable in-flight
field marks confirmed our suspicions.

may have seen birds we did not. YMMV as they say.
