Call me crazy, but I've always loved thunderstorms...the audible and visual effects, the massive energy on display, etc. We were under a severe thunderstorm watch at my place Friday afternoon (complete with tornado watch) and I was sitting under the covered portion of my rear deck taking it all in, when at about 4PM, my first-of-year Ruby Throat Hummingbird (a male) showed up at my deck feeder, riding in ahead of the storm, I presume. Hope the little guy knew what he was doing. Two apple trees in my backyard are in full bloom and while this was going on a flock of 40-50 Cedar Waxwings were working them over, feeding on blossom petals, it appeared. Great that these beautiful birds seem to be doing well.
