others who had only spoken to him over the phone. All wanted to pay tribute to him for his pictures, his humor and his willingness to help them with bird and photo questions. Below is one from someone in Florida who asked me to post for him. I only had the opportunity to meet Dick one time. In January Dick, Clyde Blum and John Keuhnel came to the Space Coast of Florida on a birding road trip. Clyde called me and wanted to know if I would guide them around the area for some target species that the 3 amigos had on their want list. I accepted with enthusiasm. I met them on a very cold morning at Merritt island NWR to start our adventure. Over the course of 3 1/2 days I was able to put them on 9 of their targets. 1st species was Painted Bunting at a fellow birder's yard feeder. As the days went by they got great photos of: Red-cockaded Woodpecker Masked Duck (male in breeding plumage) American Bittern Limpkin Mottled Duck Snail Kite (either Dick or John actually had an apple snail shell fall out of a palm tree on them) American Avocet (a sneaky surprise that caught an elated Dick off guard) Florida Scrub-jay Those of you that were on Dick's friends list read several of his very animated posts from his trip to Florida. I was glad I could make the 3 amigos trip a total success. Dick's humor was infectious. He was a delight to be around. We have lost a wonderful person way too early. I am a former member of CTOS and now reside in Florida.
