Despite little appropriate habitat in middle TN shorebirds find places to stop. Returning from work in the late afternoon on Wed. I again visited the small lake at the corner of Old Harding and Morton Mill Rd., next to the Harpeth River in Bellevue (SW Nashville). The muddy regions are continually changing as the area dries out from the flooded Harpeth River of last week but there is still enough for the birds. I found 4 species of shorebirds plus the everpresent KILLDEER. Spotted Sandpiper 1 Solitary Sandpiper 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper 2 Least Sandpiper 22+ If we really had some habitat (the proposed Bell's Bend park?) think what we would get!
