5/3/06
McKenzie area; Henry & Weakley Co.

I got out for a couple of hours this morning to check a couple of areas just
north and west of McKenzie. Overall birding was pretty slow, but I did find
two more singing Lark Sparrows, one in Henry and one in Weakley Co. This
makes 5 locations in this area that we've had Lark Sparrows over the last
couple of weeks. Both of these birds are in areas that they've been regular
over the last few years. My area isn't birded much, but if anyone would like
a map showing some of the locations I've had Larks I'd be glad to enter the
locations on a Topozone map.

Otherwise, highlights were a single Bobolink (which wasn't only unusual for
being by itself, but also flew up and sat on a wire, which I'm not used to),
but was at least this time was in good Bobolink habitat. Dickcissels were
more numerous than I've ever seen in this area, easily 30+ heard over the
morning. Warblers were pretty scarce, in contrast to reports this morning
from other areas of the State. Tennessee and Palm were the exceptions, as
they were singing everywhere.

I made a quick run to the area in Henry Co. where Henslow's Sparrows
showed-up a couple of years ago, but the habitat has been kept cut since
then, so no luck there.

Hope everyone has a good time at the upcoming TOS meeting at Nashville.

Good Birding!!
