Productive Saturday morning (1/31/2015) in the yard here in west Knox Co. The daily gull flight totaled over 1000 Ring-billed plus 3 HERRING Gulls including a 1st-cycle, a 2nd-cycle, and a possible 3rd-cycle bird. A MERLIN took an E Bluebird out for brunch but the Blue Jays wouldn't let it eat in peace. Eventually about 15 Blue Jays had flown in to join the party and chased the Merlin around the woods until it eventually disappeared. It wasn't in one spot long enough for me to get a photo (maybe if I hadn't spent so much time scoping it first). Thanks to Amber for first spotting it. Also had a Yellow-rump with an interesting call note that I would have liked to have gotten a better look at.
