​The Memphis Christmas Bird Count was held on Sunday, December 14, with 30
observers participating.  Preliminary species total is 95.  Most unusual
sightings were Long-tailed Duck at Ensley Bottoms and Long-eared Owl at
Shelby Farms.  The Long-eared Owl was only the fourth sighting ever for
Shelby County and the first since the Eisenhower administration.
