Someone was asking about Maryville College Woods-- I went there about a week ago for the first time and it seemed to be haven for birds. I saw a hermit thrush, blue-headed vireo, black & white warbler, blue gray gnatcatcher, and heard and saw an unidentified warbler which sounded alot like the blackpoll warbler on my CD, and nothing else. It made a trill that went up in the middle. Is this likely the correct ID? There was also a coopers hawk (it was pretty big) which landed in a tree right above me in the parking lot as I was about to leave. I would like to go back there soon. I'm sure someone more experienced could have identified more birds that day. I also went to Ijams Nature Center on Saturday morning and had a good time there. I heard MANY hooded warblers but only actually saw one. This was my first time seeing this very striking bird. I also located a cerulean warbler singing from atop a tree right in the parking lot!
