Today while on my lunch break, I decided to check my bluebird boxes at Rotary Park. The Bluebirds have finally picked up the pace and started laying, although it must be said they are two to three weeks behind, in getting it done. Paper wasps, however, have jumped the gun, and any box without a bird nest in it, was occupied by Paper Wasps. Of course, they were displaced, and the roof and top sides of the boxes treated with a light coating of petroleum jelly. Five boxes have Bluebird eggs, Two have Carolina Chickadees, and the other three remain empty, for the time being. Hopefully, when the Great-crested Flycatchers get here, they'll fill in the gaps. While checking the boxes, I heard and saw a (FOY) White-throated Vireo. Also worth mentioning: One of my boxes on the Menees trail, has a nest with seven bluebird eggs, which is a record, for me.
