March 18, 2003 I heard and saw a very cooperative Louisiana Waterthrush this morning in Royal Blue WMA in Campbell County, TN on Old Hwy 63. Eastern Phoebes were abundant in the area as well along a 7 mile stretch. Cove Lake (State park- Caryville, TN) has been rather boring recently and I have spent very little time there. NO Tree Swallows yet or Purple Martins... Strange. 2 Pied Bill Grebes on Sunday and a couple of RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were the most interesting birds. If you go to Cove Lake now, plan on paying the $3.00 fee. They have begun enforcing it. Much of my birding there in the past has been a quick drive through and short walks for 15-30 min in the past, so I imagine my reports will be less now since $3.00 is a little steep for that amount of time only. On the home front in Jacksboro, TN Bluebirds have finished their nest in the box and it appears ready for the first egg! A few Juncos are still around as well as many Field Sparrows, Song, Chipping and of course White Throated still here. 2 Pine Warblers are singing daily and eating suet.
