Today in Jacksboro, TN (Campbell County, N of Knoxville) behind the National Guard Armory on Industrial Parkway, I visited a spoil area- weedy field that has been extrememly productive the last 4 yrs around this date for Sparrow species. The one area has grown up quite a bit into successional growth, but the bulldozed areas behind the armory and new factory fields have good habitat that is very favorable. Despite the wind, and at mid-day I had the below. (Numbers are approximate as there was so much movement from place to place with the wind blowing etc.) This is only about a 1 acre area! It is aways great! 18-20 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. As a tip, just do a White-Throated Sparrow song in the right habitat, and White-Crowns always pop up for me and start singing.. 8-9 VESPER SPARROWS 5 were along the ground together in one spot The others across the road in a cow pasture 7 SAVANNAH SPARROWS 3 Field Sparrows Numerous Song Sparrows 6 Swamp Sparrows Nell Moore Caryville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net is owned by the Tennessee Ornithological Society Neither the society(TOS) nor its moderator(s) endorse the views or opinions expressed by the members of this discussion group.
