Several years ago an osprey pair built a nest platform atop a power pole on
River Road (SR 304) south of Kingston, and it's been fun to watch them
fledging babies. But I've just driven by, and it has finally caused a short
circuit and started smoldering, and the fire department and power company
are on their way. I hope there were only eggs in the nest, not helpless
hatchlings. Fortunately, we have a very robust osprey population here and
the loss of a clutch of eggs isn't a disaster for the species.
Good spring birding!
