This morning I went out on my property to see what I could see. Always hopeful of seeing a new yard bird I was looking for anything I had not seen before in the yard. I enjoy all of the visitors and spend quite a bit of time just observing their behavior. I was standing on the edge of the woods and saw a large bird fly up on a branch. I recognized it as a Cuckoo. I thought it was the yellow-billed cuckoo I had seen on several occasions before on the property except it looked smaller. I continued to observe it as it moved from limb to limb among the thick foliage. I got a good bead on the bill and noted it was black not yellow. I then got on the eye and it was very red. I knew I had a black billed cuckoo at that point. So, just like that I had a lifer, a state bird and a yard bird. Birding is go Great!!! J.
