Everchanging autumn... More first autumn arrivals at home in western Lewis County. Yesterday (Oct 7 2006) Yellow-rumped Warblers appeared suddenly and in good numbers, along with the season's first (last? only?) Ovenbird. Today (Oct 8 2006) produced the first Golden-crowned Kinglets and Swamp Sparrows. In other notes, a lingering Ruby- throated Humminbird appeared today, and a Northern Parula yesterday. Swainson's Thrush numbers have increased, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks remain abundant, but Tennessee Warblers seem to be starting to diminish. Other warblers were Magnolias, Black-throated Greens (both today), a Black-and-white (yesterday), and a single lingering Common Yellowthroat today. Only one vireo for the entire weekend, a single White-eyed yesterday.
