Thanks for the info, Dean.  It needs to also be kept in mind that the  
alternate songs are more variable than the primary songs.  The male  
Blue-winged Warbler here seems to have ditched his primary song after  
only one day back on territory.  Since then I have heard nothing but  
the "B" song (persistently!) in several variants, all presumably from  
the same male.  My understanding is that the primary song is mostly  
given by migrants and unmated birds newly arrived on territory, with  
the alternate song being typical of males established on their  
nesting grounds.
