Today there was an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull at Dutch Bottoms (along Hwy 25E, south of White Pine) on upper Douglas Lake. It was seen sitting with several Ring-billed Gulls & 2 imm. Herring Gulls. The best place to view it from was the (unmarked) public lake access across from the Dutch Bottoms Baptist Church. A scope is ESSENTIAL. By my recollection, this is just the second occurrence in East Tenn. (The other at Nickajack Dam in 1993.) Also present: Pied-billed Grebe - 12, Dbl-cr Cormorant - 95+, Great Blue Heron - ~100, Great Egret - 55, N. Shoveler - 12, Ring-nk. Duck - 8, Bald Eagle - 1 im, Least Sandpiper - 22, Pectoral Sandpiper - 35, Dunlin - 25+, Caspian Tern - 1, Tree Swallow - 600+. ################### Rick Knight Johnson City, TN rknight@xxxxxxxxxxxxx =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Topographical Maps located at http://topozone.com/find.asp * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Tennessee Ornithological Society web site at http://www.tnbirds.org * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net Owner: Wallace Coffey, Bristol, TN jwcoffey@xxxxxxxxxx (423) 764-3958 =========================================================
