Carole Swann arranged for a delightful trip to Stones River National
Battlefield and Gateway Island. Eight birders attended and were not
disappointed, despite the chilly weather.
At each spot, 25 or more species were sighted with quality " walk away"
looks.
Highlight birds from *Stones River** National Battlefield include*:
-Both Ruby-Crowned and Golden-Crowned Kinglets
-Red- breasted Nuthatch
-Hermit Thrush
-Juncos ( one saw these prior walk)
-Red-Tailed Hawk
Among others enjoyed.
Highlight Birds of *Gateway Island** include:
-American Pipits
-Sparrows including Savannah, Song, Chipping, White- throated, and Swamp
-Bekted Kingfisher Feeding and Hovering repeatedly for a good show
- a pair of Kestrels
- Least Sandpiper
*Ironically, many of these appeared after much of the group left for other
obligations. If we had not become hungry, I believe we would have added
more to the list!
Thank you Carol for the arrangements and being our " Scout" for the trip!
It was so good to see all and look forward to seeing you for our *CBC on
Saturday, December 17.*
Thanks again for a most delightful day of great birding and fellowship!
