On Tues morning I found a Louisiana Waterthrush singing away while =
kayaking on Poplar Tree Lake at Meeman Shelby Forest State Park in Shelby =
County. I found the bird about 8:30am in the drizzling rain, while =
Melinda Welton beat me by finding a Louisiana in her yard in Nashville at =
6:30am!!! Early bird gets the bird I guess.

In 2.5 days stomping through the woods, that was the only Neotropical =
migrant I found.

I did see a couple huge cottonmouths Tuesday as well. Not feathered, but =
flying nonetheless, I found a Mourning Cloak and a Tiger Swallowtail on =
Wednesday, both firsts for me this year.=20

When in the woods, you always find weird things and this trip was no =
exception. I always find old cans and bottles, but I didn't know they =
made Gatorade in cans? Guess that was before my time. I also found a =
Pepsi Free can and I think they stopped making that maybe 10 years ago. =
Been a while. This is only a couple of the old things I've found. Of =
course I found lots of old beer cans, some with the old pop top opening. =
=20

Always amused by things in the woods.

Cheers,
Scott Somershoe
