The immature Ferruginous Hawk that I found yesterday at Jolly Landing in Lake
County was briefly seen in the same area again this morning by a birder from
Dyersburg. He showed a picture on his camera to Ruben & Victor Stoll, & Alan
Troyer. They've been looking for the bird ever since but this far have had no
luck. I've been here since about 11:00 am. It is extremely windy here today.
That's usually good for soaring raptors and they are out today but it's blowing
so hard they don't stay put for long!
I will warn folks who go looking for the Ferruginous Hawk that there are at
least one, possibly two, Krider's Red-tailed Hawks in the area and I've been
fooled more than once for a few seconds thinking it was the Ferruginous.
The Rough-legged Hawk, on the other hand, has been extremely cooperative and
showy.
I will update immediately if the bird is refound.
Good birding!
