On Wednesday February 20, 2008 Stephen and I birded the Kyker Bottoms area. The following birds were seen: Northern Harriers (Two Adult Males) Ruddy Duck (*) Buffleheads American Black Ducks Ring Necked Ducks Canada Geese Mallards Gadwalls Hooded Mergansers Northern Shovelers Green Winged Teals American Wigeons Loggerhead Shrike Pine Warbler (singing) Also of interest we happened to meet up with a previous Knoxville TOS Member, Andrew Core who had the good fortune to also flush the Barn Owl. Stephen and I tried our luck a couple of times later to flush the Barn Owl but were unsuccessful. (*) In reviewing the Online Kyker Bottoms Checklist it appears the Ruddy Duck has not been listed. Does anyone know if Ruddy Ducks have ever been seen at Kyker Bottoms or is this a first?
