I haven't even begun to get all the reports in yet but wanted
to let people know about a few highlights from the count so far.

Wes James took his boat out onto Melton Hill Lake (Clinch River)
along the Knox/Anderson Co. border. He had 4 Cattle Egrets in
a field with some cattle. This is the same general area as where
Chuck Nicholson had a single Cattle Egret on the Knoxville Christmas
Count back in January. At the Gallaher Bend heronry, Wes had two
Double-crested Cormorants tending a nest and a Great Egret (no
definite signs of nesting). Lots of Great Blues and Black-crowned
Night-Herons nesting as well as a pair of Osprey. And last but not
least, a Caspian Tern.

Carole Gobert just reported a Snowy Egret at Turkey Creek.

Jean Alexander and David Johnson worked the UT Plant Science Farm
which, as always, turned up some goodies including Brown-headed
Nuthatches at a nest(!), American Pipits, Bobolinks, Marsh Wrens
and Great Egret. Seems like I'm leaving something out here.

At least two reports of Bald Eagle, one from Dan and Laurie Mooney
at Seven Islands and one from Lyn Bales and Kathy Givens at Ijams.

Steve and Gail Clendenen also reported Brown-headed Nuthatches from
the original site in Farragut.

Ron Hoff, Dollyann Myers, Frank Bills and Sharon Bostick report that
the Bank Swallow colony in the mine tillings near Eastbridge Industrial
Park in east Knox Co is still active with about 25 nests.

We have Great Horned, Barred and Screech Owls and Whip-poor-will and
Chuck-will's-widow all either on count day or at least as count-week
birds.

I'm sure there'll other goodies reported and hope to have a full
report soon.
