Today I birded 15 locations in Knox County from sunrise to sunset and it rained
nearly the entire time. But it was my only chance to get out and look for
waterfowl this weekend so, despite the cold, wet conditions, I set forth on my
mission. Here are some highlights:
SNOW GOOSE 11 (UT Plant Sciences Farm. High count for Knox Co?)
Wood Duck 1
Horned Grebe 2
Canvasback 1, Greater Scaup 1, and Hooded Merganser 1 (In a tight raft -- is it
still a raft if only 3 birds? -- at Concord Park Boat Launch, and later at Carl
Cowan Park.
Gadwalls (several locations)
Green-winged Teal 1 (Gilbert Drive Marsh)
Ring-necked Duck 5 (Gilbert Drive Marsh and Dead Horse Lake Golf Course)
Northern Shoveler 6 (Dead Horse Lake Golf Course)
Merlin 2 (Dead Horse Lake Golf Course and Lakeshore Park; over-wintering at
both locations in previous years)
Rusty Blackbird 18 (Sequoyah Park)
That's it. I'm beat.
