First, a big thanks to everyone that helped with the Knox Co Spring Count
on Saturday (29 April). Results are still coming in but wanted to post a
couple of notable finds in addition to the good birds reported by Morton
Massey on TN-Bird earlier (if you haven't seen the eBird reports yet).
Melinda Fawver and Doug Bruce photographed a SWALLOW-TAILED KITE at Seven
Islands State Birding Park which appears to be a new species for Knox Co!
The bird was chased off by a Red-shouldered Hawk and has not been
relocated.
Chris Welsh had two Snowy Egrets on Lyons Island by kayak. This is a
heron/cormorant breeding colony so well worth watching for any signs of
nesting (that would be another first for Knox Co). Unfortunately the
only way to get good views of the island is by boat.
Thanks again to all that counted.
