John W. Sellars Chapter of TOS met at Shutes Branch Rec Area on Old Hickory
Lake in Wilson Co this morning to see what was going on at the Heron
Rookery. There were birds paired up and standing in the nests. Next we
headed up lake to Cedar Creek Rec Area and were greeted by over 200 Am.
White Pelicans, 75 Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Horned Grebe, Bald Eagle
sitting on nest, a flyby 1st or second year Bald Eagle, and Pine Warblers,
along with other normal birds. Nice cold morning of birding. Next we headed
back to Cabin 13 at Cedars of Lebanon State Park for a talk on the research
done by Dr. Jeffrey Walck and his students on invasive plant species in
Middle Tennessee. The talk was very informative. Great birding, talk, and
meeting this morning. Thanks to all who came.
