Beginning at 30° on a crisp sunny day and a meeting spot at a Home Depot
parking lot, it was destined to be a good day. We almost were laye to meet
others for we were enjoying some sparrows and killdeer. This set the tone
for a really great day birding, in my opinion.
The *Lebanon/ Wilson County TN TOS *birding group had a delightful trip to
Woods Reservoir on Saturday, Jan 21. A group of fourteen attending most of
the stops. These birds are among some we enjoyed:

Redheaded Woodpeckers - 1 adult 3 juv- a great deal of activity and
interaction between these.
Ruddy Ducks 80+
Pair of White-fronted Geese
Other selected birds from our list includes;
Other Waterfowl - Canada Geese, Pued- billed grebes, mallards, a Black
duck, Goldeneye to name most
Passerines & other non waterfowl SP include Great Blue Heron,
Flickers, Phoebe, Golden-crowned Kinglets, white- breasted Nuthatches,
American Crow, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Golden- crowned Kinglets,
Goldfinches

200+ Horned Grebes
A dozen White Pelicans
3 Gull species - Herring, Ring billed, and Bonaparte's
Waterfowl including
200+ Ruddy Ducks,
Buffleheads,
a few Gadwalls,
Pied-billed Grebes, and
a female Greater Scaup...
New other birds included cardinal, chickadees, bluebird, Carolina Wren,
Red-shouldered Hawk ( not a Jay...we confirmed it) and I Bald Eagle

Highlight there included great looks at the Bald Eagle, elted Kingfisher,
and Common Goldeneye.
New to our list:

Common Loon
I am certain I missed birds on the list here and there. Please pardon.
I can assure you that seeing faces for the first time in a while coupled
with knowing a newcomer at one stop only (birding on his own)adding life
birds and one or two of your own group adding life birds added to the
excitement special day birding. We didn't even know done added new birds to
the end of the outing. It was so nice how we all enjoyed each other's
company while sharing what we were seeing.
The lateness of the post falls on me
( I became ill with virus midweek after that day and that took a bit for
me & catching up) yet I felt it necessary to tell you we had *fun*.
