Bedford Lake and Normandy Lake

The J W Sellars Chapter of TOS got together for the annual Soup and goodies
lunch at Roy and Melissa Turrentine's house in Bedford Saturday. Great
homemade soup and hot apple cider and other treats were enjoyed by all. Along
with great conversation.

After lunch 10 birders headed out to Bedford Lake as the clouds started
gathering and the wind started picking up.

Bedford Lake, Bedford County:

Buffleheads 6
Hooded Mergansers 6
Red-breasted Mergansers 2, Turrentine's said first time they had ever seen
them here. Nice treat.
Pied-billed Grebe
GB Heron
AM. Kestrel
Large Kettle of Black and Turkey Vultures (60)
C. Geese

Headed to Normandy Lake next. Wind was blowing creating a lot of chop and
whitecaps. Horned Grebes and PB Grebes and a few Buffleheads all that was
found. The Turrentine's did take us around to several spots on the lake that
I had not been to before. Will be checking these spots out also from now
on.

Earlier in the morning on the way to the Turrentine's I birded Normandy
lake and had Common Loons, 8 Red-breasted Mergansers, Buffleheads, Horned and
PB Grebes, Ring-bill Gulls. Greg Tomerlin got there after I left and got
his lifer Bald Eagle. He also got a couple other lifers at Bedford lake with
the group in the afternoon. Congrats Greg.

After birding a few of us headed to Granny Fishes restaurant for Trout
and Catfish, Hushpuppies, Baked Potatoes, White Beans, Fried Pickles and
Onion Rings.

Great time was had by all.
