Two of my favorite species showed up at my home in Birchwood (Hamilton County)
today to eat homemade, slightly modified Stokes recipe peanut butter suet. A
first-of-the-year adult Red-headed Woodpecker came to a sassafras suet log. The
log is about two feet long with 10 one-inch diameter holes of varying depths
drilled on opposite sides. Later a Brown-headed Nuthatch came to a suet cage
and then grabbed a sunflower seed and left.
