Much of the usuals at Forks in the River WMA, Knoxville. We saw a brown thrasher, fox sparrow and both ruby (females) and golden-crowned kinglets. Also of note were 40 migrating turkey vultures. At Ijam's Nature Center (http://www.ijams.org/) we nearly had good pictures of rusty blackbirds. They were feeding low near small wooded pond along with a flock of robins. Just when they were about to hit a light patch for a good portrait, alarm calls sounded from all species in the area and they were gone. The culprit was not my dog or a blundering birder. It was a sharp-shinned hawk that lit just above the us. -- Ethan C.
