Spent some time counting for IMBD (Sat, 12 May 2007) in Knox and Jefferson Counties. Highlights below. Knox: -- BANK SWALLOW, 2 at the traditional colony in the mine tailings in east Knox Co. near East Bridge Industrial Park. This colony may be waining, only had 3 here on Knox Spring Count, hopefully they were just off foraging -- Prairie Warbler, 1 on territory at East Bridge -- Scarlet Tanager, 2 Summer Tanager at East Bridge where both species breed -- Grasshopper Sparrow, 12+ at East Bridge Jefferson: -- COMMON LOON, 1 in breeding plumage, Cherokee Dam, getting late -- Double-crested Cormorant, 2, Cherokee Dam -- Black-crowned Night-Heron, 1, Cherokee Dam -- BALD EAGLE, 2 adult, 1 juvenile at nest near Cherokee Dam -- Killdeer, 9 -- Greater Yellowlegs, 2, Cherokee Dam -- Lesser Yellowlegs, 14, Cherokee Dam -- Solitary Sandpiper, 3, New Market farm ponds and Cherokee Dam -- Spotted Sandpiper, 1, New Market -- Least Sandpiper, 17, New Market -- FORSTER'S TERN, 2, Cherokee Dam -- Eurasian Collared-Dove, 1, New Market at ambulance station, the usual spot -- BARN OWL, 1, parents' house, Jefferson City -- BANK SWALLOW, 25+ at traditional colony in mine tailings in New Market, making a foraging run to a hay field being mowed, this colony appears as strong as ever -- Prothonotary Warbler, 1, beaver lake (too big to be called a pond) in New Market -- Grasshopper Sparrow, 1, New Market -- White-crowned Sparrow, 1, parents' house, Jefferson City Dean Edwards Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
