Hiwassee River Sandbar Birds
On Wednesday, November 18, the Hiwassee River water level in Meigs County at
Birchwood had dropped until some of the sandbar nearest the Cherokee Removal
Memorial Park overlook was visible. A number of cranes, gulls, and ducks were
on or near the sandbar. However, on Thursday, the water in the Hiwassee River
was back over the entire sandbar, and in the shallowest area the water appeared
to be about 6 inches deep. Today, Friday, November 20, 2020, the water was
still higher. I took the photo of Sandhill Cranes on the sandbar Thursday,
