There were at least 11 singing Henslow's Sparrows in the large fields at
Bridgestone-Firestone Wild Management Area in eastern White County this
morning. I managed to see three without much effort. One could be heard from
the main gate at Eastland Road (in the burned area to the east), and another
was several hundred yards farther east across the road in a small private
field. This is a typical number of Henslow's Sparrows over the past few
years-always good to know they've returned. Seeing a Bobwhite on the ground
(and hearing 4-5 others) was an increasingly rare treat.
