I birded for about three hours this morning at Bells Bend Park with Durwood
Edwards and the sparrow variety was good, though not as good as a few days ago.
We had Field, White-crowned, White-throated, Song, Swamp, Savannah, and
Henslow's. We saw at least two Henslow's Sparrows and they were in a different
area than reported earlier in the week. To get to where we spotted them take
the trail from the outdoor center and remain on it. Go past the barn, over the
tiny creek and alongside the field that has two bluebird/tree swallow nest
boxes on the left of the path. The birds were in that field but were seen from
the top of the hill. One bird was singing within easy view from the trail. The
other was quite a distance away and we could tell it was a Henslow's only
because we could see it lift its head up and then hear its song, faintly, a
split second later. There could have been another bird because at times it
seemed as if we were hearing a third, but we weren't sure.

We searched for Vesper Sparrows in the same field where I saw them Thursday but
we had no luck.

One of the small wetland areas near the river had two Wood Ducks and three
Blue-winged Teal. We also had one Northern Harrier.
