Greene Co. - Paint Creek, Paint Mtn., Western Co.

May 29-30, 2009

Hello all,

Took an overnight camping trip, to Paint Creek in Cherokee National Forest,
Friday night....passing through Western Greene co. ...both going and
returning...I ended with 14 species of warblers and 6 species of flycatchers.
Notables were, from Paint Mtn road (elev. 2100-2300 ft) Friday evening where I
heard a BAY-BREASTED WARB. and heard and saw a pair of YELLOW-THROATED
FLYCATCHERS and heard a Pine warbler. Paint Creek campground and creek bottom
produced Lousianna Waterthrush, Yellow-throated warbler, N.Prarula Warbler,
Black-throated Green and Black-throated Blue, Hooded warblers, and an Ovenbird.
 Acadian flycatchers were plentiful.

I started my trip Friday by the Nolichuckey river bridge going from Rt. 340
toward Briarthicket (Cocke Co.)....where I had a Prothonotary Warbler and
approx. 45 Cliff Swallows. I came back through Mason Lodge Rd off Rt. 340
Sat...and heard the Kentucky and Prairie Warblers , Yellow-breasted Chat, and
C. yellowthroat to finish off my warbler weekend. My final flycatcher was the
WILLOW at the Buelah Unit of Lick Creek WMA....where Don Miller reported one a
few weeks ago.

An enjoyable 24 hours of birding, but missed the Swainson's and Worm-eating
warblers, Whip-or-will, and Veery?....Should have went to Green Mtn with Don.
