I visited Gibson County Lake this morning and was surprised at how much things
had changed since yesterday afternoon when I was there. But that is fairly
typical of this lake - birds come and go frequently and in just a matter of a
few hours there can be significant turnover. That was definitely the case this
morning. The flock of 10,000 ducks that was there yesterday was now down to
around 200 birds! Osprey, Semipalmated Plover, and Lesser Yellowlegs were nice
additions though! The shorebirds were with a small flock of Killdeer on the
small island near the levee. The Osprey was sitting in a snag on the far south
cove, eating a fish (what else?). There is still one Great Egret hanging around
in the north cove.
