Yesterday morning Ed Schneider and I made the quick 5 hr trip (each way) to West Point Dam in GA to try for the Ivory Gull (and Thayer's Gull). Mike Todd was there at sunrise and gave us updates as we drove. When we were 30 min away we about died as he told us that the bird had been sitting on the water for a good hour, but had just gotten up and circled up and out of sight!! It came back down and was very cooperative when we arrived. It sat on the water and would float in towards the dam, providing views from 25-40 m before it flew out towards the boom 100+m away and start the floating in process all over again. Just a few highlights. Not surprisingly, Ed got a lot of incredible photos of the bird, which I'm sure he'll post later today. http://www.pbase.com/shoeman/ivory_gull Great birding!
