During our last Christmas Count, our group was investigated (very politely) by TVA police, just as we finished our work. After a little research, we find that we can enter the area legally by calling Dennis Spencer, the Plant Manager, or his assistant, Kriste Lanius, at 615-230-4091. The site is within our Christmas Count circle and is a fairly good site for ducks, gulls, waterfowl and waders, one of the few remaining useful spots in our increasingly urban surroundings. We have also obtained a contact point for access to the Boxwell Scout Reserve and can assist anyone wanting to access that area given plenty of advance notice. Walking about on black coal berms provides an unusual color experience while birding.
