NEW PEREGRINE FALCONS TO BE RELEASED FROM ROCK CITY

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA. On Wednesday, June 22, two brother peregrine falcons
arrived at Rock City Gardens! The birds were placed in a hack box by John
and Dale Stokes with Save Our American Raptors (S.O.A.R.). These rescued
birds are set to be released back into the wild on Friday morning, July 8.
Both birds are to have transmitters attached for their release, one being a
solar-powered satellite transmitter.

This week a social media contest is underway, where fans are encouraged to
suggest bird names on Rock City’s Facebook page through June 28. The two
winners chosen receive a special access pass to the peregrine release, a
special guest role in one of the Rock City Raptors Birds of Prey Shows this
summer and an annual pass to come back to Rock City all year!

Previous birds released have been named “Garnet and Frieda” after the
founders of Rock City - Garnet and Frieda Carter, and “Rocky.” In 2010, the
names chosen were Ted, in memory of Wildlife Biologist Ted Touchstone, and
Zenith, chosen by Rock City’s Facebook fans!

Birds of Prey Shows are every Thursday through Sunday at 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm
and a special 4:30 pm show on Saturdays through Labor Day. The show features
the popular “Rock City Raptors” and is hosted by John and Dale Stokes.

This peregrine release program is an ongoing project for Rock City Gardens
and is the fifth hacking effort on Lookout Mountain since 1993. Rock City
Gardens believes in continuing its environmental efforts, sustainability,
land conservation and stewardship. Rock City, high atop Lookout Mountain is
just six miles from downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. A continual
beautification program has preserved Rock City Gardens as a showcase of more
than 400 different wildflowers and plants native in the mountain area.
