I took a late lunch and headed north to search for the duck.
As I arrived, several birders were leaving and told me they
had seen the duck, but that it was currently hunkered down
out of sight on the north side of the lake. While talking with
them, we spotted a calf wandering along the highway but soon
lost sight of it. Little did I know that the calf would help
me see the FULVOUS-WHISTLING DUCK. I waited perhaps 30 minutes
without any luck before fate intervened. The owners of the calf
came looking for it, and I told one of them I had seen it in
the area. Other birders arrived and we waited perhaps another
15 minutes before the farmers, using 4 wheelers to look for the
calf in the surrounding fields, buzzed the duck's hiding place.
Out it popped and stayed on the north side of the lake near the
dilapidated building, providing nice looks despite the very
windy conditions. Thanks to all who have posted and particularly
to Jon Mann for the excellent directions.

It's an interesting day when a lost calf produces a whistling duck.
