Ensley area of Memphis5/15/2018
Spent two hours in Hatchie bottoms today, and literally had ONE transient
migrant, a singing Northern Waterthrush! Spring seems to have sped thru!
Couple of miserably hot hours at Ensley around lunch were rewarded with nice
looks at the Fulvous Whistling Ducks found by Jay Walko on Sunday. The Fulvous
were hanging aroundShorebirds were noticeably fewer than my last trip, both in
numbers and diversity. No phalaropes, Dunlin, Dowitchers or Semi Plovers. Semi
Sands have way overtaken Least in numbers (no Western), with Pec still dominant
bird, and only 6 Lesser Yellowlegs, though decent numbers of White-rumped
Sandpipers. Stilts are on nests everywhere.
For eBirders that are interested, my checklist from Ensley has a collection of
images of the Whistling-Ducks. https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S45706824
Good birding!!
