During the spring migration period, I didn’t see a single warbler species in
Birchwood (Hamilton County) that travels further north to raise young. However,
beginning in mid-August through today, I have seen 12 warbler species. I have
already reported some of these online, but I will list the first date seen for
each of the twelve species below for the benefit of those who keep such
records. Seven of the species listed below have been seen again since the first
date.
* August 11 – Hooded Warbler (possibly has been here since spring, but this
was my first sighting)
* August 14 – Black-&-white Warbler and Tennessee Warbler
* August 15 – Cerulean Warbler
* August 17 – Bay-breasted Warbler
* August 19 – Kentucky Warbler (possibly has been here since spring, but
this was my first sighting)
* August 28 – American Redstart
* August 29 – Magnolia Warbler
* August 30 – Prothonotary Warbler (I had identified this species
previously this year in Meigs and Rhea counties, but this was a new “yard bird”
for me.
* August 31 – Black-throated Green Warbler and Chestnut-sided Warbler
* September 5 – Canada Warbler
* September 6 – Blue-winged Warbler
