Numbers of participants are limited and advance sign-up is required. Reservations must be made in advance by noon the day prior to each walk by calling Lana McDonald, 865-574-7323 (mcdonaldlk@xxxxxxxx). If inclement weather forces postponement, it will be announced on ORNL's Information Line at 865-574-9836 two hours before the scheduled walk. Pets are not allowed on any of these walks, but children are permitted on all walks except the May 19th tour of the ORNL Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) Experiment. ORNL recommends that participants in all walks dress in layers (as appropriate to the weather forecast), wear sturdy shoes, and bring a container of water. NATURE WALK SCHEDULE SPRING 2007 Wildflower Walk East Fork Ridge Old Growth Forest Date: Saturday, April 21 Location: Meet at west guardhouse, Oak Ridge Turnpike Time: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Leader: Larry Pounds This walk will cover a distance of almost two miles with about half of the trip off the trail in some steep-sloped areas of the East Fork Ridge Old Growth Forest. Larry Pounds has conducted many of the wildflower walks over the years in Oak Ridge. Bird Walk Freels Bend and Vicinity Date: Saturday, April 28 Location: Meet at south parking lot of ORAU's Scarboro Operations Site Time: 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Leader: Jim Evans (TWRA) Bird walks will cover about two miles. It is recommended participants bring along a field guide about birds and binoculars. Bird Walk Poplar Creek/ETTP Beaver Pond and Vicinity Date: Saturday, May 5 Location: Meet at west guardhouse, Oak Ridge Turnpike Time: 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Leader: Jim Evans (TWRA) Bird walks will cover about two miles.
