[TN-Bird] Elizabethton Fall Bird Count

The Elizabethton Fall Bird Count was held on 25 September by the Lee &
Lois Herndon Chapter of TOS.  25 observers in 8 parties covered parts of
Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, & Washington counties in northeast
Tennessee.

We found 124 species of birds.  The average number over the last 25
years is 122 species and the all-time high was 137 species in 1993.

Notable species were:
Eared Grebe  (4 at South Holston Lake)
Green-wg. Teal  (1 at Erwin)
Peregrine Falcon  (2 at Big Bald Mtn.)
Merlin  (2 at separate Unicoi Co. sites)
Semipalmated Plover  (3 at Austin Springs)
Forster's Tern  (1 at Watauga Lake)
Red-headed Woodpecker  (10, by several parties)
Loggerhead Shrike  (1 at Austin Springs)
Yellow-br. Chat  (late, 1 at Eliz.)
Orange-cr. Warbler  (1 at Big Bald Mtn.)
Canada Warbler  (late, 1 in Carter Co.)
Grasshopper Sparrow  (1 at Austin Springs)
Baltimore Oriole  (1 in Carter Co.)

Also,  an all-time high for this count was
set for Carolina Wren at 143.
