Eagle Bend Hatchery, Clinton, Anderson County, TN

I saw what was probably the same bird in the same pond at about 5 PM today
and identified it as a Horned Grebe. To me, the beak appeared relatively
stout and without the suggestion of being upturned. The throat and cheek
were whitish, with the white extending up to the eye. The white extended
far back on the sides of the head and the front of the bird's neck was
mostly white. The bird also appeared long-bodied and sat low in the water,
rather than having the chunkier, higher floating aspect of an Eared Grebe.

Few other birds of note at the hatchery, and the only shorebirds were about
15 Killdeer and 1 Spotted Sandpiper.

Subject: [TN-Bird] Eared Grebe / Anderson County TN

Sept 12

There was a single EARED GREBE seen today around noon at Eagle Bend Fish
Hatchery
in Clinton, Anderson County, TN

Was told by managment it has been around about a week , but they were
not sure which grebe it was..

Located in the second pond on the right as you go in. The bird was very
shy.
From what I recall, this was my first EaGrebe at the hatchery.

A quick drive through on way to appointment, and did not see any other
shorebirds or ducks other than regular residents.

In my yard in Jacksboro, TN this morning (Campbell County) I finally
saw my first small flock of migrants for fall which consisted of 9-12
Tennessee Warblers only...
