Sod Farms – At the Sod Farms this evening, there was what appeared to be an
American Golden Plover. Another couple thought it could have been a
Black-Bellied Plover. Hopefully they will post a correction to my post if
their photos determine that is what the bird is. Although large, we believed
it to be an American Golden Plover because of the black cap and white brow that
extended to the forehead. The bird was not in breeding plumage.
On Swamp Rd, the two Short-eared Owls continue. The first showed itself around
7p before crossing the road and hunting the field near the barn and silo. We
watched it for several minutes. Although we never seen the 2nd bird rise from
the field, it was perched in a small tree towards the intersection of Swamp and
Little Rock when we pulled forward to listen for woodcocks. (none heard) The
bird remained perched for several minutes. Attached is a very grainy shot. It
was round 712p when we first noticed the second bird.
